As part of the Core Production Skills module at Leeds Trinity University, first year Digital Marketing students produce an Artefact for 40% of their marks for the module.
The Artefact needs to be a social media channel, that exists for 4–6 weeks, and produces content regularly. How regularly will depend on the nature of the channel, the usual frequency of creating new content, and the time taken. For example a video is richer media than a blogpost, and so we would expect less videos than posts for the equivalent marks. Talk to your tutor so that you understand how much content to plan for and create.
This primary social media channel needs to be supported by two (or more) other social media channels that will act as marketing funnels. For example, you could have a video channel on YouTube as your main channel, and Twitter and Instagram accounts that direct readers to engage with the main channel.
There will be opportunities for collabs with classmates on each other’s channels, so you could consider what this might look like from the earliest stage of your planning.
Here’s some examples of current and past students’ channels:
Create a pitch for your channel as a blog post on Medium. Your pitch should include:
- The name of your channel
- What your subject will be and the style of your posts.
- Why you have chosen the channel you have chosen.
- Links to channels you already have (if you are going to use them in the project).
- Description of your audience and the kind of content they like.
As with all blogposts on Medium for this module:
- At least three external links. (In a future lesson we will also add the requirement that these links must contain good anchor text.)
- At least three images.
- No longer than 500 words.
Have fun.
